To the editor:
Sometimes the problems we are facing today seem overwhelming. Our economic structure is still rocky, the need for health care reform is complicated and people are apprehensive about the future of our country. Perhaps the answer lies in a totally different direction.
Looking for a solution on the left or the right is not going to be as beneficial as looking within and finding a solution that will truly help us to live as one nation, under God. As we begin a new year, perhaps we should consider the following three proposals for solving the concerns of our day.
First, we should have a national day of prayer and fasting. Even though God is all knowing, the shock of such a day would probably bring an endless flow of blessings. Can you imagine the blessings that would flow from this?
The second proposal is to work at finding ways to strengthen marriages and family life. Families are the backbone of society. Many of our families are fractured and broken. Strengthening marriages and family life would go a long way toward putting our country back on its feet.
Finally, worshiping God on a regular basis and using the many gifts He gives us to help one another will strengthen families, communities and our nation. His blessings are limitless. There are many churches, synagogues and mosques all across this country. Perhaps recognizing our need for divine guidance would help us in solving the monumental problems of our day.
If we put our focus in the right direction, the New Year and our country will be filled with promise and peace.
