Letter: D’Amore is best choice for Groveland

---- — To the editor:

Election Day in Groveland is Monday, May 6, and Groveland needs a dedicated person with proven leadership skills, integrity and a commitment to make our town a better and more affordable place to live. With all the negative activity taking place, it is imperative that the voters of Groveland start the clean-up process and restore pride and dignity to our beloved town.

“All politics is local” is a phrase coined by the former U.S. Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill. This phrase which encapsulates the principle that a politician’s success is directly tied to his ability to understand and influence the issues of his constituents. Elected officials must understand the simple, mundane and everyday concerns of those who elect them into office. Those personal issues, rather than big and intangible ideas, are often what voters care most about, according to this principle.

Unfortunately in today’s environment we the voters have become the public servants, and elected officials ignore the wishes of the voters. They make laws, rules and regulations that serve their own beliefs, interests and ideologies. That is what is happening in Groveland where the Board of Selectmen is operating like the town is its personal fiefdom.

Joe D’Amore is the last of the real public servants, he has no conflicts of interest and is running for the love of the town and not the love of himself. He has raised four children and all have attended the Groveland and Pentucket school systems. He is not a career politician and is resigning from the School Committee because after six years (two terms) he feels his work is done and he is proud of his accomplishments and feels it is time for new leadership.

It is critical that someone who knows the rules, laws and regulations set forth by Massachusetts pertaining elected officials is elected. This is not the time for on-the-job-training. If the voters of Groveland want to take their town back, then their only choice is to vote for Joe D’Amore.
