In just a matter of months, New Hampshire will have a new “Health Benefit Marketplace,” where Granite Staters can more easily shop for affordable health insurance, and many will also be able to buy insurance using premium tax credits.
This marketplace will benefit many Granite Staters, including cancer patients and their families, but few people know about the changes coming or have the information they need to make the best choice about what plan to buy and how to access financial assistance. For cancer patients and others with chronic diseases, choosing the best plan for their individual needs and accessing subsides is vital.
The good news is New Hampshire has been awarded a grant to fully fund an effort designed to provide crucial information to residents and their families about their new options. The bad news is some New Hampshire legislators want to reject this money.
The grant will allow our state to give everyone in New Hampshire the information they need to make informed decisions, and it will provide them with access to help navigating the new system.
There’s no reason to reject the money.
Let’s provide the information everyone needs to use the Marketplace effectively. A locally controlled Consumer Assistance program is just the way to do it, and it’s ready and waiting for our state to accept.
