Sound Off

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — Smoke and mirrors

The Obama presidency has been all smoke and mirrors. It’s the one year anniversary of Benghazi, then there are the deaths of SEAL Team Six, Fast and Furious and other missteps by this president. In three weeks Obamacare kicks in and there are still no navigators to help. No training for them. The American people are being deceived by federal, state and local governments. They seem to take advantage of crisis and with the help of the media keep the citizens uninformed.

War effects

The U.S. invasion of Iraq killed 100,000 to 600,000 Iraqi civilians. For Americans, the invasion killed 4,486 U.S. troops and wounded 32,223. Of the 2.3 million U.S. troops who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, roughly 20 percent suffer from PTSD or traumatic brain injury, and hundreds commit suicide each year. For returning troops and their loved ones, the war is never over.

Obama

Remember when Obama told his adoring disciples and the rest of us that “I was elected to end wars, not start them.” So why is he trying so hard to get us in to another one?

Hunting season

Mark your calendars: Oct. 21 is the start of archery season in Massachusetts. Anyone looking to enjoy the beautiful colors of fall has to wear some bright orange. It’s nice to share the woods on Wood Hill, Bald Hill, Fish Brook and Rafton Reservation with hunters. But on weekends its difficult to find a parking space due to the hunters being in the woods over two hours before sunrise and staying well after sunset. I wish they would exclude Saturday hunting so others can enjoy the scenery.

Reconsider

In response to the hunting Sound Offs: I am sure there are nice people who hunt and often this is a sport of generations. I remember my mother telling a story of some wonderful hunters who were very generous when they rented the family farm by leaving nice fruit and salamis. But please try and understand that folks like myself, who really don’t care for the thought of hunting, have our beliefs as well. Although there are an abundance of deer, you could be killing many perfectly healthy ones. Also some very cruel people do exist who are thoughtless and not following the rules. I do know the pain must be horrible when the deer dies. I wish just one hunter would rent the movie “Powder” that gives the animals’ view and reconsider the sport.

Too much

How many things can you have at North Andover High at the same time on a Friday night and keep cars and parking safe? At what time do you start to think about the people who live in the area?

Lawbreakers

People, just because there is minimal police presence on our roadways does not mean you can be deceitful lawbreakers by speeding and tailgating. You put everyone else at risk when you do. Your selfish ignorance is not welcomed by those of us who drive cautiously and are law-abiding. You wouldn’t have the nerve to commit those infractions in front of a police officer!
