Guinta is best choice for Congress

To the editor:

As I have grown older and hopefully wiser, I speak less, listen harder and watch more carefully. I have listened to the Democrats talk but, more importantly, I have watched what they have done. I have seen how they wasted my hard-earned money and their greed for more. Needless to say, I will be voting Republican.

I carved time from my family to find any alternative to Carol Shea-Porter. (I was willing to nominate my cat.) I went to listen to Frank Guinta. More importantly I researched what he accomplished in Manchester. He is a proven good steward of our tax dollars, shows solid leadership and is not a wimp.

What impressed me most was a simple observation at the Londonderry parade. A woman had slipped, fallen and broken her wrist. She was in some serious pain. Frank was immediately at her side and stayed with her. This was a somewhat important time in a close race to "press the flesh." He stayed well after the EMTs were helping. No one was watching him; the parade had moved well past him and there were no photographers.

It's what a man does when no one is looking that is the true measure of the man.

Vote for Frank Guinta for Congress on Sept. 14.

Support Finegold for state Senate

To the editor:

I'm for Barry Finegold for state Senate.

This session, Barry, with the help of the state delegation, successfully pushed for the passage of a bill that transferred the Livingston Street Fields to Tewksbury. That land, more than 25 acres, can now be used by the town for recreation and open space.

Also, Barry, along with state Sen. Susan Tucker and state Rep. James Miceli, pushed for the Tewksbury land conveyance in House Bill 4801, which allows the town of Tewksbury to sell the lot on Main Street where the old police station used to be and keep half the proceeds, the other half being conveyed to the state. In Barry's words, it turned an eyesore into revenue for the town and the commonwealth.

Barry also worked to protect senior citizens. He sought to change the maximum qualifying gross receipts for eligibility to defer taxes for senior homeowners and lower the interest rate charged in order to keep more seniors in their homes.

Recently, Barry refused a raise in the Legislature because he knows that there are people in the district that are doing without, and he understands that during these fiscal times he would not be comfortable accepting the raise.

Barry has been a champion of educational issues, from the elementary grades to the college level. He believes there should be educational programs for all and has worked with members at UMass Lowell and local community colleges so these programs are accessible to everyone.

I am also for Barry because I know first hand that he is an advocate for and giver to many charitable organizations in this area.

Lastly, I believe his work ethic and integrity will serve the voters of the 2nd Essex and Middlesex District with distinction as the next state Senator.

I humbly ask the voters of this district to give Barry their endorsement by their vote on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

Silberstein is right for state Senate

To the editor:

State Senator matters. The legislative body of the Senate is small and intimate — and lightweights, poseurs and dilettantes are soon relegated to the margin. The outcome of this election will have direct and immediate impact on the present and future interests of Andover.

The voters of Andover are fortunate to have three serious, qualified candidates for the Democratic nomination for State Senator. In our view, one candidate — Debra Silberstein — stands out. Debbie is a progressive, which we define as a leader who embraces government as a positive instrument of change. As importantly, she is a realist. With six years of experience on the town's School Committee (three years as chairman) preceded by four years on the Finance Committee, Debbie understands that progress cannot outstrip a town's, or state's, resources. Especially in her tenure on School Committee, she oversaw a process of wrenching budget cutbacks while protecting the quality of our schools.

We trust Debbie when she says that she will work to repeal some of the recent increases in the state's sales tax — increases that the current representatives and senators have allowed to stand. We applaud her when she recognizes that the engines of progress in Massachusetts are small businesses and start-ups, and when she espouses programs to support (not tax) these entrepreneurs. And we are grateful that a candidate has emerged who has already done so much for the Town of Andover, and who is running for state senator not for personal gain or ego satisfaction, but because she plainly believes that a good, hard-working senator can make a difference.

For a full decade, Debbie Silberstein has been an able, responsive, effective public official for the Town of Andover. We enthusiastically support her candidacy for State Senator and encourage our fellow citizens to do the same.

Support Guinta for Congress

To the editor:

As election season picks up, each candidate is doing all that they can to increase their exposure and tout their platforms. The repeal of Obamacare is high on my list of priority issues, and many of the candidates for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District are calling for that reform. However, among the candidates I see only one with a plan for after Obamacare — Frank Guinta.

The health care bill has only dug us deeper into debt. Mr. Guinta knows that we need to find better solutions to the issue and that the spending must be checked. He is a strong believer in the free-market economy upon which our country was founded. He proved this as former mayor of Manchester with lower taxes, reduced borrowing, and allowing small businesses in Manchester to succeed.

Implementing responsible free-market reforms will allow our country to climb from underneath our debt. Mr. Guinta has the experience and the know-how to bring capitalist solutions to Congress. Join me on Sept. 14 in voting Frank Guinta for Congress.

Guinta offers a new direction

To the editor:

Are you happy with the direction our country and economy is heading? Are you happy with trillion-dollar stimulus packages to prop up government jobs that create virtually no private sector jobs — stimulus that needed to be passed to keep unemployment from going above 8 percent and now stands at 9.9 percent?

Are you happy with a government takeover of health care that will further drive us towards bankruptcy and lower the quality of our health care? Are you happy with a cap and tax bill that will cost jobs and will in President Obama's words have energy costs, "necessarily skyrocket"? Carol Shea-Porter voted for all these things.

On Sept. 14, we have the opportunity to reverse the direction that New Hampshire and the nation are heading. Please join me in supporting Frank Guinta for Congress.

Frank has a plan for reforms he wants to introduce in his first 100 days that the people helped to craft with their opinions and votes. Check out his Facebook page and you will see his proposed 50 cuts to wasteful spending that will save billions of dollars. Support Frank and make your voice heard again!
