Don't blame teachers
This is in regard to the Sound Off comment, "Christmas parties." Teachers do what they're told by city administration regarding the celebration of holidays. Teachers are not in charge of that situation. Teachers also do not have paid holidays. If school is not in session, then it doesn't mean that teachers are being paid.
Let us know!
I live on Prospect Hill and they've been doing some road work on my street. The street is all dug up so you can't drive on it. I don't mind that they're working on the street, but what I do mind is that they don't tell any of us anything ahead of time. This is ridiculous. It would be nice if they would let us know when they were going to close the street. What if there was some kind of emergency and I'm at home and I can't leave the house because the road is all dug up? I like that they're fixing up my street, but give us some kind of advance notice.
Late card
I would like to thank Mr. Lantigua for the birthday card he sent to me. There's just one problem. I just got it last week and my birthday is in July. I would like to add that since my birthday card was late, his vote will be late.
Make it work
To my fellow Lawrence residents: Let us stand together to make the new trash removal system work. If it will save the city half a million dollars a year, then we all have a stake in it. The skeptics make it sound like we are clueless and it is doomed to fail. Everything needs to be tweaked at the onset to make it work. Let's make it work.
Where's the money?
If Mr. Lantigua brought a billion dollars into the City of Lawrence, then why is Mark Andrews having problems with the budget? Where did it all go?
Not fair
I just thought you might like to know that before the post office gets the right to lay off all of those people to go to a five-day delivery week, you should check out their postmasters. The ones who get to do the time cards and put themselves down for a time that's not accurate, when they're really one hour to three hours late. Let's not forget that sometimes they don't even show up.
Be careful
Another Sound Off said he would like the Federal Blue Cross, I don't think so. I know for a fact he would not want to pay for the top category. I know many that had it and dropped down to a lesser category because they didn't want to pay for it. I have it because I want it, but in January it is going up $40 a month on top of what I already pay. Please don't wish for something if you can't afford it. Like they say, be careful what you wish for.
Where's the outrage
I too am outraged at the fact that Niki Tsongas has voted against withholding funds to ACORN. I have e-mailed her a number of times with my concerns about this. This organization is full of corruption and greed. I cannot for the life of me understand her thinking on doing this. I would like an explanation as to why she voted for ACORN. I and my family and friends will certainly remember the next time her name appears on the ballot. Now I understand that funds are still be given to this group. Where is the outrage in this country?
No sense
A 23-year-old is going to be paid $55 million a year to dribble a basketball around while Andover is shutting off street lights to save money and a food pantry is closing because it can't meet demand. Does this make any sense?
