Sound Off

Quit double parking

Can something be done about the double parking on Essex Street in Lawrence? The last time I went down there, someone was double parked and when I honked my horn to see if they were going to move, they actually jumped out of their vehicle and challenged me to step out. I didn't see any policemen around to report the incident, but something has to be done about it. Spots are available and yet there are cars double parked right next to them. Please, Chief Romero, do something so that we can return back to the city.

Too sensitive

Read this if you want a good laugh: Wal-Mart has renamed "Black Friday" because the higher-ups feel the phrase is a racial slur and don't want to offend President Obama. They renamed it "The Event." Someone should tell Crayola to rename all of their black crayons. Also, everyone beware of the deadly event widow spider and all of the event holes in outer space.

Quit complaining

I'm calling in response to the article I read about GPS in Haverhill firetrucks lowering morale. Why, because now they have to account for where they are? This is ridiculous. GPS systems should be in every vehicle so taxpayers are not paying for gas that's wasted or people traveling around to grocery stores and everywhere else. That includes the firefighters, the Police Department and anybody else who works for the city. I don't understand how people's morale can be affected by having to do a regular duty correctly.

Horrific

My little dog, Blackey, who was only 9.2 pounds, died yesterday due to a kick in the ribs by a Lawrence police officer. This is horrific. Something has to be done with these officers.

Try winning

Obama wants an exit strategy for Afghanistan. Whatever happened to winning as an exit strategy?

More options

I'm just reading about Comcast in the Sound Off column. I just changed because my cable bill went from $66 a month to $159 a month. That's ludicrous. I swapped to the dish. It's less than $50. We need more options.

Value down, taxes up

It's amazing. Here in New Hampshire, the value of my property has decreased by $70,000, but yet my property taxes went up. Only in New Hampshire.

Bad pricing

I was in the supermarket the other day discussing with someone the price of the bread. It was $1.19 for white bread and $1.39 for wheat bread, but then I saw right to next to it was a whole dozen box of doughnuts for 99 cents. What's wrong with this picture?

A lot of gall

Does anyone know why President Obama didn't acknowledge the Fort Hood massacre when it happened? I know. He wasn't finished his speech, which he was reading from the teleprompter. And Democrats have the gall to criticize George Bush because he didn't react quick enough when Katrina happened?

Look at the facts

This is response to the recent post regarding Maine's ballot Question One. The fact is, Maine's voters rejected gay marriage 52.75 percent to 47.25 percent, with a 54 percent voter turnout. The caller alleges that we are getting closer to the moment when there will be gay marriage in all 50 states. Apparently the voters' rejection of gay marriage in 31 states in a row has no meaning. Is the caller confused by the facts? We shouldn't let a little thing like the facts get in the way of the caller's enthusiasm for gay marriage.
