Letter: Each day brings new outrages

To the editor:

Have you had quite enough yet? There's plenty more to come if not! Where are we? This is not the America I was raised in or want for my grandchildren. Consider these items, all from one edition of the paper!

1. There's to be new a government agency to investigate Medicare fraud. Not a bad idea, until you realize that 20-plus years ago the Department of Energy was established to eliminate our dependency on foreign oil! Billions later, are we still dependent? Operative word is "eliminate."

2. Major Nidal Hasan, a known Muslim hater of America, is not a "terrorist" in the papers or in the government's eyes — he's just a murderer! Another example of PC run amok!

3. For the terrorist bombing of the Marines' barracks in 1983, Iran was found culpable to the tune of $2.6 billion to be divided among 150 families of those lost there. The Obama administration is blocking the distribution.

4. The confessed mastermind of the Sept. 11 terrorist disaster is to be tried with all the rights of a U.S. citizen, defended by lawyers at our expense and may get the death sentence. The operative word here is "may!"

5. A Louisiana congressman will get 13 years for bribery. The sentence matches the other congressmen who have been so found guilty. Operative word is "other."

6. To appease someone, the government may move the Marine Futenma Flight Station to another location in Okinawa. Have you thought about the cost to move a military base? Do we really need that sort of additional item to a national debt already about $50,000 for every man, woman and child in the U.S.?

7. Then there is one to smile about. Sal DiMasi, the third in a row of disgraced Massachusetts House speakers indicted, wants charges dropped. His lawyer says having his pension suspended, he cannot afford a defense! Not sure what the operative words are here, maybe "three in a row."

Enough? There are more examples on every page of the paper, every day! Reading these should be enough to get more than a paltry 30-40 percent of the voters out on Dec. 8 and Jan. 19, 2010. I hope so! The operative words here are "read" and "hope."
