Wasteful spending
In 2007, for the first time in 152 years, Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the executive branch in New Hampshire. As a result, the budget increased by 17.5 percent. In 2009, with the Democrats still in control, they raised taxes and fees on 34 different items. Wasteful spending, higher taxes? Thank a New Hampshire Democrat.
Lock him up
I'm sick of Dick Cheney attacking our president. If I were in the White House, the first thing I would have done is lock Cheney up for life.
Icy sidewalks
It snowed Saturday night. Monday afternoon I was on Merrimack Street in Haverhill going into stores to shop and help the local economy. Well I almost fell twice. The sidewalks were pure black ice. No sign of sand or salt. Who is to blame? The mayor? The store owners?
Be frugal
So health insurance cost increases will threaten taxpayer services. Better idea: It is time the unions representing the city workers allow the health care coverage to go out to bid, like in private industry, so we taxpayers, and the workers also, can get a better "bang for our buck." Let's see, we are the ones footing most of the bill so why can we not have a say-so in how our tax dollars are spent? Time to be frugal everyone and yes, city workers, this also means you!
Poorly prepared
I cannot believe that the Town of Andover did not prepare properly for early voter turnout during a school day at the high school, one of Andover's voting sites. Signs were posted for voters to park behind the field house, yet you could not get there because the crossing guard was adamant about making sure you went elsewhere to park, namely in a spot reserved for students who paid for these spots. What gives and how does the town plan to fix this problem come January's election day?
Enough of Hall
I would like to see The Eagle-Tribune run at least 50 issues without a reference to or about Dave Hall. Enough already.
Poor display
Good to see the town of North Andover is back in the holiday spirit. Now can someone tell me who is responsible for that poor excuse for a Christmas lighting display in the Old Center.
Worth it?
Reading about the clerk from Lawrence being charged with stealing more than $2 million: I know you are innocent until proven guilty, but if she is facing only 5 years for that crime, I'll take the job. Not bad pay for 5 years. This should encourage our state and city workers who are embezzling to steal big, just in case they do get caught.
Priorities
What is wrong with this picture? Page 1 of Tuesday's Eagle-Tribune states that the city of Lawrence is about to crash and burn. They can't pay their employees; the city is going to be broke by March 1. Page 6 has a story about how Lawrence just received a $1 million grant to fix up the parks in the Arlington neighborhood. No offense to anyone, but that park will be destroyed by gangs and what have you within weeks of it being done. And there won't be any city employees left to work on that park! The city needs to get its priorities straight. Pay your workers; don't go after money to fix a stupid park!
