Blast them
Are we placing too much responsibility in our war in Afghanistan on foot soldiers? During World War II we pulverized cities like Berlin to finalize the situation. We have the bombers, lets have an all out effort to blast this war to a finish.
Fix the light
Yesterday I again experienced the frustrating and dangerous crossing of Main Street in Haverhill with the three seconds of green light at Ginty Boulevard. It seems that Mayor Fiorentini still hasn't found a rocket scientist to fix this problem.
Sweep them out
So the weasels in Washington have managed to buy off another senator with our hard-earned money and push through a bill that most of them haven't even seen, let alone read and digested. And next they will start tacking on amendments like they have done to the tax code bills. The result is predictable — a bill that is totally not understandable, ridden with perks for their friends and the lobbyists who have bought them off, and subject to major fraud. Why do we put up with this? Looks to me like it's time to sweep them out and start again, perhaps with people who are honest and who also have a brain.
Too foreign
Well there you go again — four weeks straight of foreign auto reviews. Your column in the Sunday Eagle-Tribune couldn't be any more predictable. As for affordability, the cars you review are usually expensive and not practical for the average driver unless you consider $36,000-plus for a small car practical. Another peeve we have with your foreign auto review is the lack of those pesky national safety ratings you always seem to omit. I would think the national safety ratings are as important to the readers as the fuel economy or warranty.
Inconsiderate
I just wanted to say thank you to my inconsiderate neighbor who left his car (again) out in front of my house during and after the snowstorm, which prevented the plows from being able to clear the snow from my house. It will be a mess out there for months now since it is so cold. Next time park in front of your own house. I wish Bradford/Haverhill would have a parking ban on all streets when there is snow, so that people would get towed.
Stop the abuse
I don't know what all of the fuss is about putting GPS devices in City of Haverhill vehicles; it has not stopped the ones that have them now from doing personal tasks with city trucks. As I sit at home and look out my back window over the last two years, I have seen my neighbor on the next street over (and fellow city workers) frequently using a DPW truck to bring in and haul away material, remove brush, pave in front of his house and repeatedly plow his driveway — all during weekday daylight hours. I think city leaders need to concentrate and work a bit harder to stop abuse.
Children suffer
Methuen hires a superintendent who has no true interest in the city beside a paycheck. She screws up the budget and the children suffer. City and school officials need to take a look at this situation and rethink the hiring process.
Who's the mayor?
As a resident of Lawrence, I am thoroughly confused. Just whom did we elect to be our new mayor, Willie Lantigua or Lennie Degnan? It seems like every time you ask Willie a question, Lennie answers it. They remind me of that great comedy team Edgar Bergan and Charley McCarthy.
Too taxing
It's good to see that Mayor Manzi's first order of business after being elected into office again is to raise our taxes twice in one week. I'm so glad the majority of Methuenites voted for this clown.
