To the editor:
While Sen. Ben Nelson cast the one vote that made it possible to get the health care reform bill pass in the Senate I completely disapprove of the tactic he used. While his vote got the bill passed, I and I'm sure many folks in Nebraska feel a loss of integrity to have to be made part of a political deal and that he had to be bribed to cut this deal. In other words it was "his way or the highway."
What about the other states? How does he think they feel that he received special privileges and they didn't?
I believe we truly need Health Care Reform because it's good for America. It seems to me that what benefits Sen. Nelson and Nebraska is more important to him than the United States of America.
I sincerely hope that Sen. Nelson reconsiders his role and his vote in helping health care reform pass when the House and the Senate combine their versions. When the time comes for Sen. Nelson to cast his vote next time the health care bill comes up, he should stand up with his fellow Democrats, and vote yes for what's right for America, with no strings attached.
