---- — Religion

The commenter “Church and State” must be living in an alternate reality to assert that elected officials avoid references to God. I wish that were true. The reality is that they fall all over themselves competing to appear the most devout. President Obama can hardly make a public statement without ending it with “God bless America.” All legislative sessions start with a prayer and officials are sworn in with their hands on a Bible and stating, “so help me God.” None of them dare to not attend various prayer meetings. All of this is clearly a violation of the establishment clause of the First Amendment, but the evangelical Christian lobby is so strong that no office holder or political candidate dare point this out. Our country’s founders would cringe at the way religion controls our government at all levels.

Assault weapons

Assault weapons never should be made available to the general public. This should be of the utmost importance in my opinion. Assault weapons should be for our military and police only.

Tax credit

Thank you, New Hampshire Senate, for stopping the teacher unions and Democrats and giving parents the opportunity to send their children to private or charter schools.

Pressure cookers

I wonder how long it will take President Obama and Sen. Dianne Feinstein to pass legislation to have a background check before you can buy a pressure cooker.

It was so classless of David Ortiz to use profanity in front of the entire stadium. What made him think everyone was OK with it? Like kids don’t hear enough of it in society today. It’s another example of a sports player thinking he can do as he pleases. Getting caught up in the moment does not justify ignorance!

As I watched the bravery of the police responding to numerous dangerous situations including in Cambridge, I can’t help but think back a few years ago, to when President Obama called the Cambridge police officer who was responding to a crime report stupid.

It’s hard to deal with acts of terrorism when they happen so close. But one thing I want to say is that I am proud of the police, medical personnel and the way the people of Boston came through.

So let me get this straight: We accept the terrorists’ family as political refugees, put food on their table in the form of food stamps, put a roof over their heads in the form of subsidized housing, give them a scholarship so they can go to college and better themselves and help them become part of our lives with kindness. They repay us with stealing from their local department store and blowing up our folks. Perhaps if they had been earning their food and housing with jobs, they wouldn’t have had the time or energy to plot our destruction. I wonder if it was a phone from the government that blew up the pressure cooker bombs? Wouldn’t that be just about right from these folks?

Time to retire

I think it is time for the Bruins to retire Rene Rancourt. His singing is terrible, and he does nothing to inspire Americans when he sings our national anthem. All he does is showboat!
