To the editor:
On April 11, I performed as Margaret Bourke-White at Memorial Hall Library. Four Andover organizations collaborated to bring this program to the public. The library hosted the event and both the Andover Historical Society and the library publicized the event which brought in an enthusiastic audience. The Addison Gallery of Art joined the collaboration by inviting townspeople to two lectures on women in photography. The Addison at Phillips was one of America’s first art galleries to consider photography as art and they featured Bourke-White in three major exhibits. Finally, the Andover Cultural Council awarded a grant for this program which helped to get “Margaret Bourke-White, Courageous Photographer” on-the-road.
We are all fortunate to live in this town that values educational, historical and cultural projects and events. My humble thanks to all involved: Emily Classon of the library, Elaine Clements of the historical society, Kate Ziskin and Juliann McDonough of the Addison, and Judith Farzan and Leslie Malis of the Andover Cultural Council plus their staffs, boards of directors and volunteers.
