I would just like to thank the Methuen mayor, the chief of police and the fire chief. I took my grandchildren to the open houses at the fire station and police station. My grandchildren had a wonderful time and they learned a lot from all of the officers. It was really a great time and I think that the city of Methuen went overboard. They really did a great job. As I said, the children learned a lot. There were a lot of hands-on activities. Thank you, again.
Good to vent
Thank you, Sound Off, for letting us vent our feelings and opinions. It does us good to be able to get certain matters of concern out in the open.
Half the story
I’m calling in regard to The Eagle-Tribune’s editorial about the mayor of Haverhill paying senior citizens $8.50 an hour. He only tells you half of the story and the editorial was 100-percent right. After you work your hours to pay off your taxes, you end up with $5 an hour. Ask the mayor for the whole truth, not half-truths.
I read the editorial about Big Bird which suggests that Romney’s point in the debate was at a time when the federal government is losing trillions Sesame Street can afford to pay its own way. I think the editorial misses a much bigger point. If the federal government is in need of some adjustments, then the editorial should also say how can Romney then suggest that millionaires and billionaires need more tax breaks, which will add to the deficit and he still supports huge subsidies for oil companies. All of these do not need more federal subsidies and tax breaks.
The Obama administration seems to have a disconnect with its own State Department. They’re not working together. It shows. They’re not protecting us against terrorism. Four people died due to incompetence and no one is being held accountable. It’s disgraceful.
Regarding the Biden/Ryan debate: I never liked Biden, but now I detest him. He was very rude during the entire debate; always interrupting Ryan. At one time, Ryan even asked him to stop interrupting so that they would have more time to discuss the issues. His laughing all the time, especially when Ryan was talking about the ambassador and the men who were killed. I don’t see anything funny about men being killed.
Here’s something to stop and think about: Before all of this technology, we survived. We didn’t have a whole lot of trouble. Sure, people were killed randomly and things like that, but look at what the Internet has cost people. It has cost some of them their lives, some money. It’s supposed to be helpful and all it does is help commit crimes.
When my nephew signed up for Iraq — his father had been in Vietnam — I told him that it’s no different from Vietnam. It won’t change and it won’t get better. Don’t go, it’s not worth it. He went for two years and he got through it. Thank God he’s home.
I would like the Methuen city councilors to rethink their plan for the big raises in the Police Department. We are going through difficult times. This is the time to hold the line on pay and raises!
