---- — Potholes
The majority of us on Walter Palmer Lane in Salem have lived here for many years. Over the years the surface of the road has deteriorated so much that the road is about 85-percent potholes. We have asked the Town of Salem to fix the road but to no avail. They will periodically patch the holes but in short order the holes open up again. Can someone from the town please explain to us why they refuse to repair the road correctly by completely scraping down to the base and resurfacing it?
God and soldiers
The Pentagon has released a statement confirming that soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their faith: “Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense ... Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis.” This regulation would severely limit expressions of faith in the military, even on a one-to-one basis between close friends. It could also effectively abolish the position of chaplain in the military. This administration has indeed created a sick, divided society. It’s OK to promote yourself as gay, but you can’t mention God in fear of being prosecuted by the country you serve. You can’t make this stuff up.
Good news, Democrats: The marathon bombers hated the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. So now you can blame it all on Bush!
Who does Obama think he is fooling? At a National Day of Prayer gathering, he asked those attending to reflect on the sacredness of life. This man, who is the most pro-abortion president in history, no more believes in the sacredness of life than Planned Parenthood or the Boston Marathon terrorists.
I cannot understand why Gov. Deval Patrick refuses to release information on the welfare benefits the alleged marathon bombers’ family received. This is another black mark on this sorry administration’s legacy. Then again, the people of Massachusetts have no one to blame but themselves as they are the ones that keep electing the same do-nothing people year after year.
Jason Collins has received many accolades for coming out, from writers and sport people. It really was a good idea, clever really. He is of retirement age and his playing record is not that good. He is out of a job and at this age is not likely be made an offer. But it is different now that he came out of the closet. The league will not dare to not offer him a job. He will get an offer before the season is over.
Why would anyone be surprised that the oil burner at the Atkinson Community Center needs to be replaced after six or seven years? Look at the roof on the fire house —how long did that very expensive original one last? The town pays big bucks for equipment and materials and then wants them replaced within a few years. The average homeowner would be going after the installer or manufacturer if that happened in their home.
These are big-ticket items that should have a lifespan longer than a blender. A roof should have a 15-year minimum life; the boiler I’d guess to be 10 years. Why isn’t the town pulling out the paperwork on these and demanding the warranty cover the work?
