Some words of praise for our Sen. Kelly Ayotte on her recent votes on gun control legislation. We should thank Sen. Ayotte for using a reasonable person’s approach.
The radical fringe on the left wants full gun control, sees registration as a first step and vilifies all gun owners. The gun supporters want no restrictions at all.
The legislation as proposed would not prevent criminals from obtaining weapons. Strong Massachusetts gun laws certainly did not prevent the Boston Marathon bombers from shooting law enforcement officers.
The issue is trust and responsibility. Laws do not prevent violence and forcing law-abiding gun owners to register a firearm sale to their son or daughter is not reasonable, nor is providing firearms to convicted criminally mentally ill people.
Kelly Ayotte knows this and voted not to support unreasonable bans and restrictions but to prosecute criminals who use guns in crimes, help fix our broken mental health system, increase penalties on gun traffickers and straw purchasers and increase funding for school security.
The NRA specifically stated its members should thank her for strongly supporting our constitutional right to bear arms. I would encourage people from both sides to thank her for being responsible and reasonable. We are lucky to have such a good senator.
