---- — True to form
I see the Methuen City Council rejected the privatization of its IT Department which would have saved the city close to a million dollars. What bothers me is that everybody already knew which councilors were going to vote for and against the proposal. The councilors held true to form, regardless of the public spotlight on them. The ones that were voted in by the unions will always vote with the unions regardless of the cost to the taxpayers. Methuen is just a microcosm of what’s wrong with this country. You can only fleece the taxpayers for so much money. Eventually, something has to give.
This is to all my neighbors in Methuen who put out their recyclables on Wednesday morning for a Thursday pick up. Your paper and plastics end up in my yard. Why do you feel the need to put these things out a day ahead of time? The wind always blows them out of the containers. Please have some consideration for your neighbors. You can put them out before your leave in the morning. I’m tired of picking up what you discard.
A recent meeting of the Sanborn Regional school committees showed how rude, selfish and ungrateful some of our young parents are today. The board members are all volunteers working to keep down property taxes for senior citizens, who have no, or have never had children in the educational system and are having difficulties hanging on to their homes, while at the same time not neglecting the children in our towns, who are given everything. Some of the members of the boards were verbally abused and degraded by younger people in the audience. It’s no longer “What can I do for my country?” but “What can my country do for me and my kids?” New Hampshire needs to start looking elsewhere for tax dollars for education.
The Republican comments on the Social Security rates going up shows how uninformed and ignorant some people on the right are. The tax was reduced for two years — that was the plan — in order to help many people who were caught in the deep recession caused by a Republican Congress. President Obama is slowly working us back to a sensible government in spite of Republican opposition. Thank you President Obama and other friends of America.
Martha Coakley finally is taking a stance against Mayor William Lantigua. It’s taken her a long time to come forward and hold him accountable for his lackadaisical attitude towards our state government. He needs to own up to his faults. If he doesn’t what will Martha Coakley do him? Will it be a slap on the wrist or will she put him in jail for 90 days? I think it’s time for our scared city councilors to tighten their belts and censure our mayor.
OK, so I keep reading various stories about all of the goings on in Andover. But this has got to take the cake. They are proposing a breathalyzer at high school dances. Is that really necessary? If there’s a drinking problem, then the parents need to step up and take control of their own kids! That’s what’s wrong with the world today — parents are not parenting!
