Haverhill needs a lot more cops

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — To the editor:

Illegal guns, drug dealing, robbery, carjacking, home invasions, retaliations, violence, homicide, citizens and law enforcement in dangerous situations.

Police officers need all the help they can get.

Haverhill needs at least double the current number of police officers. If we don’t ramp up the pressure on the violent pests in our city, we will end up with the same or higher crime statistics as the “bad” cities.

Gun-carrying criminals are like deadly invasive pests. Aggressive pest control requires getting rid of the pests and making sure they do not migrate to other locations to continue their destructive acts. Pests tend to move when disturbed, to find a safer place to multiply and hide unnoticed.

Residents of Haverhill need to be vigilant. Landlords must be held accountable for renting to known troublemakers. Background check fees should be added to the first month’s rent.

Some people may not care because the problem is not in their neighborhood. Wrong! The problem will continue to spread and become uncontrollable.
