Realistic pay
I want to applaud Superintendent Bergeron's acceptance of the $175,000 salary. I believe that is realistic and in-line with the rest of the superintendents in the area. Mayor Lantigua is really generous with someone else's dime. Lawrence is a pauper city. Don't be so generous with the rest of the state's money.
No protection
The president is going to be in Texas welcoming the troops home. The governor of Texas and the governor of Arizona want to meet with him. But he can't find time, he's too busy, he said. Yet he takes 10-day vacations — he's never too busy for those. We catch two people on a plane, we feel they're terrorists, so we make the news. We have a million illegal immigrants coming through Arizona every year. What happened to our transparency? Where is this president coming from? He's supposed to be the commander-in-chief and protect us. I feel like I have no protection.
Tax increases
I'm calling about the tax rate increase in Salem, N.H. I've lived in Salem for eight years. I don't know if people realize this or not, but they're fixing bridges and streets, while we don't have water or sewage or even road repairs. They're raising people's taxes who don't get anything from their taxes. People need to know that enough is enough in terms of raising taxes. We don't get anything for our money. We're still without water and we're still without sewage.
Had your chance
To Mayor Manzi: I've lived in Methuen for 50 years and you have to be the worst mayor we have ever had. We've had enough of you. You've had your chance, now give someone else a chance to do a better job. We know you're going to miss your prestige, especially your paycheck. The people of Methuen know that someone else can do a better job.
Appreciated
I want to thank the new associate principal of the Marsh Grammar School. She came out the day before school started, shook my grandson's hand, introduced herself to him, and welcomed him to the school. In this day and age, when things are so busy and hectic, I appreciate the time and consideration Ms. Lamoreaux gave to my grandson.
Bridge closed
I'm calling about the bridge that's closed on Lawrence Road in Salem, N.H. Can the Town of Salem please give us an idea as to when it's going to be open? We never see anybody working there and this has been going on all summer. It is really affecting everyone in this neighborhood. We would like a response from the Town of Salem.
Mosque solution
I have a solution to the mosque problem in New York. They should take the building and make it into all different areas — one for every religion in the world. That way, there would be equal freedom for all.
Kind gesture
On Tuesday, my sister and I had breakfast at Denny's in South Lawrence. When we asked for our bill, it had already been paid by the two ladies who were sitting at the next table. Thank you very much and God bless you.
Wasted manpower
I thought there was a shortage of police and firemen in Lawrence. I just drove up High Street. There were six cruisers, one ambulance and one fire truck all parked in front of a house with one person laying on the ground being tended to by the ambulance. What a waste of manpower.
