Letter: Zanni's tactics leave much to be desired

To the editor:

For many years now I have cooked the breakfast for the annual Methuen Democratic Committee Breakfast. The event has always been a pleasant and friendly time with plenty of laughs and fellowship. This past Oct. 5, the Democratic breakfast was turned into a ugly event by the offensive bullying tactics of some of the Steve Zanni’s supporters.

Over 20 union laborers, who neither live nor work in Methuen, were called in to use their bullying tactics and passing out literature with fabricated lies about Jennifer Kannan. They did not come to this event on their own. They were called in. Also, these people were not Methuen DPW workers. They had no affiliation with Methuen.

My good friend for over 30 years, Richard Aziz Sr. — Jennifer’s father — was there to see all of this; and I thank God that he and I were able to keep our composure.

Mr. Zanni can deny he had anything to do with these individuals all he wants; but I personally witnessed his aide, Phil DeCologero, follow these guys into the lobby of the Methuen Senior Center, and as they were leaving he was shaking their hands and saying “thanks for coming, we really appreciate it.” Also, even today as I write this letter, Mr. Zanni continues to bring these same individuals into our city to hold his political signs for him.

Methuen deserves better than this.
