To the editor:
I find the article regarding the Windham police chief and gun permits (Oct. 31) to be ironic. Last year, the New Hampshire Police Chiefs Association got in bed with the NRA when they held a raffle where the prizes were guns, including assault rifles. Now, it's coming back to bite them on the nose.
Unfortunately, the police chief in Windham is being hauled into court where he has to face the bullying, the muscle and deep pockets of the NRA. Their idea is to teach him a lesson which he won't soon forget.
As regard to the raffle, I could never understand how a profession that has to stop cars at 2 in the morning, go into houses where a domestic dispute is taking place or break up fights in barrooms at midnight held an event like that which only glorified the gun culture.
