Letter: Guinta is right choice for Congress

To the editor:

I support Frank Guinta as Republican candidate to unseat Carol Shea-Porter.

I am disappointed with Shea-Porter. She doesn't listen to her constituents or adequately represent the 1st District. I found her town hall meetings in August 2009 and earlier this year to be controlled and disingenuous. She represents San Francisco, like many House Democrats. Shea-Porter consistently votes with Nancy Pelosi, who follows in lockstep with Harry Reid and President Obama.

Guinta's viewpoints align with my conservative principles. Guinta is a man of results. As Manchester mayor, Guinta enacted the first tax cut in a decade. He reduced spending, streamlined government services, and cut costs, all on a bipartisan basis.

Guinta is a man of ideas. On his website, Guinta proposes reforms in his spending cuts initiative to return to a constitutionally limited government. Guinta endorses the tax reform pledge. He supports tax cuts for individuals who know better how to spend their own money and stimulate the economy. He also promotes tax cuts for small businesses to promote job creation.

Guinta stands firm on repealing the health care law. Recall back in May when Pelosi stated, "But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it ..." Pelosi, with backers like Shea-Porter, forced the unpopular bill through Congress without the consent of the governed. Citizens are learning what's really in the bill and are more opposed than ever. Guinta will work with Congress to repeal and replace the unpopular law with free market, consumer-based solutions.

Finally, Guinta's ads are positive and upbeat. Negative advertising and mudslinging (by some of his opponents) turn me off. I seek substance and conviction. That is why I support Guinta to win the nomination and then to unify Republicans with disenchanted independents and Democrats to retire Shea-Porter in November.
