LAWRENCE — Two men with guns robbed a 24-year-old man of jewelry and $140 cash as he walked on Newbury Street toward a cab stand, police said.
The victim told police he had just left his friend's apartment near Haverhill and Newbury streets and was walking south on Newbury Street about 12:30 a.m. Monday, when he saw a man standing in a doorway across the street.
When the man saw him, he walked into the building, the victim said.
The victim told police as he passed the doorway two men stepped out and grabbed him from behind.
Both men had handguns and one was aimed at his neck and the other at his chest and the pair forced him into the doorway and demanded his money.
The victim told police the men took a silver replica of a Rolex watch, a gold chain with a cross, and his wallet containing $140 in cash, before telling him to take off.
The victim told police he ran to the cab company and went to his girlfriend's house. He and his girlfriend then went to the police station to report the robbery.
He described one of the robbers as a light-skinned male in his early 20s, clean shaven, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build and long hair in a ponytail, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans and white sneakers, brandishing a silver handgun.
The second man, who had a black handgun, was in his early 20s, wearing a black ball cap, had long hair in a ponytail, with a medium complexion, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, and a medium build, and a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
Officers searched the area for the robbers but were unable to locate them.
