Lawrence man robbed after celebrating Celtics' win

By Jim Patten
Staff Writer

LAWRENCE — A city man celebrated the Celtics' championship win at an Essex Street bar, but after that, his night pretty much went downhill, police said.

The 53-year-old man told police he was walking home from the bar about 12:30 a.m., and when he reached the corner of Mill and Methuen streets another man approached him, pulled out a large kitchen knife, and demanded his money.

The victim told police he asked the robber to just take the money and handed over his wallet, which contained only his personal identification and no money.

The robber was described as 23 to 26 years old, medium build, clean shaven and having long black hair, and wearing a tan-and-gray polo shirt.

Detectives Alan Andrews and Jay Heggarty were on patrol and saw the man running north up Jackson Street.

They searched the area but were unable to find the man.

The victim was not hurt during the robbery, police said.
