LAWRENCE — A local teenager who was shot in the head early Saturday died yesterday at a Boston hospital.

Gabriel Gonzales, 18, of 44 Exeter St., third floor, was pronounced dead at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a spokeswoman said.

Gonzales was shot in what police believe was a gang-related crime at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

He and a friend were walking to a neighborhood store when a car pulled up, and two men jumped out and started an argument. One man threatened to "pop" Gonzales. The friend reported hearing four to five gunshots, according to a police report.

Gonzales was first taken to Lawrence General Hospital and later airlifted to Brigham and Women's.

Police described him as a gang member who was known to them.
