Local driver makes NASCAR debut

Eagle-Tribune

HAMPSTEAD - Local race car driver Andy Seuss will make his debut at the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour New England 100 Race at the New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon on Saturday.

Seuss, 19, a Pinkerton High graduate, started by driving go-carts and was the 2000-01 junior champion at the Sugar Hill Speedway in Weare, as well as the Sugar Hill Speedway Driver of the Year in 2002.

He graduated to supermodified cars and raced at the Star Speedway in Epping, earning Rookie of the Year for the 350 Supermodified class in 2003. In 2004 he was the TrueValue Modified Race Show Rookie of the Year and in 2005 the TrueValue Modified Race Show Most Popular Driver. In 2006 he went to New Smyrna SpeedWeeks in Florida and earned the Champion award there.

This weekend, he will be driving the number 70 entry, sponsored by Manchester Urology Associates.

"This chance to participate at Loudon is huge," Seuss said. "It is the next step for me and an important stepping stone into NASCAR because this is a NASCAR-sanctioned race."

Seuss will go to Loudon tomorrow for practice and time trials to gain one of the 40 slots for Saturday's race. If he qualifies, his car will be impounded by NASCAR and he will have Friday to prepare for Saturday's race, which is scheduled to get the green flag at 1:10 p.m.
