METHUEN — A 31-year-old woman was slashed across the face and chest during a fight with two other women at a Swan Street house party early Sunday morning, police said.

Officers met the victim in the emergency room at Lawrence General Hospital about 3:05 a.m. Sunday, where she told them she had been at a party in a second-floor apartment at 91 Swan St. when she was attacked by two women in a child's bedroom.

When officers visited the apartment, they found smudges of blood on the walls and on the footboard of one of the beds.

After an investigation, they arrested Cruz Mendoza, 36, of 459 Prospect St., and charged her with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to commit murder, and mayhem.

Mendoza told police she was trying to break up a fight between two other women.

She showed police the blood-stained pants and shirt she was wearing at the time of the fight and the items were seized as evidence, police said.
