Criticism of Obama isn't racism

To the editor:

It's a lie! Wake up, America. President Obama, and his socialist leaning Democrat leadership, along with Olympia Snowe and a few other Republicans, are blindsiding our country. Anyone who dares to question Obama, or his far-left radical ideas, is made out to be a racist. That is a lie.

More than half of our country believes that President Obama is on the wrong track. Health care, education, energy, defense, the auto industry, the banking industry. You are dividing our country, Mr. President, yet we are not allowed to speak about it, lest your minions and the liberal national media, paint us with the broad brush of racism. That is a lie.

Billions and billions and billions of borrowed money have been spent by the Obama administration to bring our country to the sorry state it is now in. Please, don't tell us again that it was George Bush who brought us to this place. We are facing over 10 percent unemployment. More than that in some parts of our country. Our dollar is worth about half of what the euro is worth. There is talk that the euro will soon replace our dollar in the world market. What is next, President Obama?

More of our banks are going under. The housing market is poor at best. The American automakers, GM, Ford and Chrysler, are being out sold by most foreign automakers. Your ideas are not working Mr. President, and that's the truth.

We are all concerned as to why you have not called on ACORN to shut down its operation until a thorough investigation has been completed. We would also like to see those in your administration who are being investigated for questionable income tax practices, to step down from their stations until the IRS has been satisfied. It's just the right thing to do.

It's up to us now to stand up and speak out, America. Call your senator, and call your representative, demand that they tell Obama, Pelosi, and Reid to put our country back on the right track. Don't borrow or print any more money. We know that will not work. Remember, it's not racism. It's the right thing to do.

We need affordable housing

To the editor:

I would like to express my concern for all the people who are in shelters and living in the cold. It is so sad. It is not that they want to live this way.

It is like my son and I who are on disability. We don't make enough to live in a spacious apartment. We are like many crowded in a small one bedroom because of our income.

I am sick like many and cannot work. We don't have the luxury of a car. We depend on buses. Most of our check, like many, goes to rent and then we worry how to eat and pay our utilities.

These mills they are making into apartments, why can't they make them affordable for everyone? This is America and we should all join together as one and there shouldn't be such a thing as the rich, poor, and middle class. When it comes to helping people who are trying to make it and just want a safe, clean place to live to raise a family, then it should not be that it depends on your income if you can live there. We are all equal and we should not be divided like this.

So let's get together and make these apartments for everyone. This is how Americans should be, stand together and help each other, like our ancestors did.

Tsongas must support public option

To the editor:

As a constituent of Congresswoman Niki Tsongas in the 5th District, I wish to make known her stance on the public option provision of the proposed health care bill.

There is a Web site run by Howard Dean on which information about each House and Senate member's vote is noted.¬  The categories are Yes, No and Don't Know.¬  I was appalled to find that Tsongas is listed in the Don't Know column.

I, therefore, wrote her an e-mail on her Web site (which did not state her preference on this vote), and told her of my objection. I¬ then called her Washington office and spoke to an aide who assured me that she did indeed intend to vote Yes.

However, as of Friday, she is still listed as Don't Know on the Dean Web site, and her statement on her Web site concerning health care reform is very vague.

So, for anyone who is as concerned about our representative's vote on this critical issue as I am, please get in touch with her.
