HAVERHILL — Haverhill played credible defense and moved the ball at times, but turnovers doomed the Hillies to their ninth straight loss, 24-8 to Tewksbury last night.
Haverhill rushed for 104 yards, led by Tito Morel (10-64), and passed for 112 yards, but three interceptions and two lost fumbles prevented any consistency on offense.
Tewksbury (4-5) mainly relied on a punishing ground game (262 rushing yards) led by converted lineman David Gallatto, who rushed for 127 yards on 14 carries. The Redmen scored one touchdown in every quarter, although Haverhill stopped every extra-point attempt.
The Hillies averted the shutout with 40 seconds remaining in the game when Malcolm Novello scored from nine yards out and Connor Tufts ran in the extra points.
Haverhill must travel to Dracut next Friday night in search of its first win.
