Local businesses and community leaders recently joined in the grand opening festivities at Enterprise Bank's new Methuen office at 255 Broadway. Formerly the site of Friendly's in downtown Methuen, the prior building was replaced by a 3,600-square-foot commercial bank, with two drive-up windows and ample parking. Chief Executive Officer Jack Clancy and Branch Manager Cheryl Parent welcomed several hundred guests who toured the new building. Mayor William Manzi officially cut the ribbon on behalf of the city of Methuen. The Salem, N.H., branch of Service Credit Union celebrated its move from its former location at 159 N. Broadway directly across the street to its new home at 158 N. Broadway at a ribbon cutting ceremony recently.

The full-service branch offers the same complete banking services, mortgages, consumer loans and full-service ATM seven days a week. Service Credit Union also provides online and mobile banking. Another existing branch location in Salem, N.H., is within the Wal-Mart store at 300 N. Broadway.

The Mass General Hospital Cancer Center hosted its first fundraising gala, "The One Hundred," on June 5 at the Westin Copley Place. One hundred carefully selected individuals, researchers, physicians, caregivers, volunteers, patients and philanthropists were honored for their significant contributions in the mission of advancing the fight against cancer. Over 600 guests helped to raise over $500,000.

Project Bread is providing incentive grants to the Summer Food Service Programs in Lawrence and Methuen in an effort to help families cope with the cost of food and gas.

Grants can be used to acquire food storage and preparation equipment, sports or arts and crafts equipment, and books — whatever it takes to enrich the programming and increase the number of children they serve.

The Lawrence General Hospital medical staff provided $12,000 in scholarship funds to encourage students pursuing careers in the medical field. This year's recipients were Adriana Then, Aaron Stella, Geoffrey Bergeron, Sean McCormack, Emily Welsh, Christina Rosado, Rebecca Putnam, Janesty Rivera, Chelsea Hildebrandt, Mallen Silvestre, Awilda Pimentel and Jenifer Grullon.

The CareGivers Inc. is an all-volunteer organization that helps the frail, elderly and disabled maintain their independence and dignity. T-Bones Great American Eatery and Cactus Jack's Great West Grill have spearheaded the effort to assist The CareGivers in a fundraising event over the last three years. Restaurant guests were able to donate $5 to The CareGivers, and when they did, they received a $10 dining certificate to use on their next visit to any of the seven restaurant locations. The fundraising event is called "Sweetheart of a Deal." Through this T-Bones and Cactus Jack's program, $70,000 has been donated to this organization. This year's event ran through May 25.

Joseph O'Garro has been promoted to vice president of BDC Capital, a provider of loans and investment capital for New England business.

O'Garro began his banking career at Mutual Bank for Savings in 1981. After leaving Mutual Bank, he spent time with both Shawmut Bank and BankBoston before joining BDC Capital. He was educated in London, England, at the Hackney College.
