Joan and Frederick Peterson

Joan T. (Matthews) and Frederick Peterson, of North Andover, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 24, 2009.

A party was held for the couple at Salvatore's Function Room in Lawrence, with a D.J. present. There were 65 guests in attendance. The party was given by their family members who include, John and his wife Linda Peterson of Amherst, N.H., Susan, wife of John Norton of Salem, N.H., Nancy, wife of Joseph Pierro of North Andover, and Michael Peterson, also of North Andover. There are six grandchildren.

Joan is a native of East Boston. She worked as a secretary for Dr. George Ousler.

Frederick is a native of Lowell. He was a previous member of the faculty at Merrimack College in North Andover for 42 years.

The couple met at Hampton Beach in 1957. They were introduced by mutual friends.

Their secret to a successful marriage is love, patience, understanding, and mutual support. Family, immediate and extended, are extremely important.
