Ask Carley: Have your wedding cake and dessert, too

By Ask Carley
Scripps Howard

Q: Can we serve dessert and cake at the reception?

A: It's your wedding, and if you want to sweeten it a little more with an added dessert course, then go right ahead. There are several ways that you can go about serving cake and dessert, and the only guideline to follow is to make sure that your cake and dessert complement each other flavor-wise.

So, if you're serving chocolate cake, opt for dishes of light mousse or have a buffet set up with chocolate truffles, raspberry-sauce brownies and mint-chocolate cookies.

On the other hand, if your wedding cake is fruit-infused, consider serving sorbet, fruit parfaits or sweetly frosted sugar cookies. Place these on a buffet so guests can grab them throughout the night, or have them plated right alongside your cake at the end of the meal.
