Help out animals

Sunday, May 17, is the annual Strut for Strays walk, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bartlet Mall, located at the intersection of Pond and High streets in Newburyport. Event features music, food, children's games, activities. Leashed dogs are welcome. Water stations available. Strutters who collect at least $50 in pledges will be given a Strut for Strays T-shirt. Sheep get a makeover

North Andover once again hosts its annual Sheep Shearing Festival on Sunday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the Old North Andover Common. Activities include herding demonstrations, pony rides, craft fair, food vendors, herb sale. There is parking at the Franklin School, with free shuttle service to and from the festival. Finding comedy in NH

The Salem Historical Society hosts "What New Hampshire Thought Was Funny 200 Years Ago," on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the Old Town Hall Museum, 310 Main St., Salem, N.H. Like catnip, for people

Eat chocolate for a good cause at the fifth annual "Cat's Meow Chocolate Tasting & Silent Auction," on Friday, May 15, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., at Indian Ridge Country Club, 73 Lovejoy Road, Andover. Features entertainment from live jazz duo "Moon Glow." Event is a benefit for homeless cats and kittens. Presented by Billerica Cat Care Coalition. Tickets are $25.
