Organizers push for St. Patrick's Day parade donations
LAWRENCE — Green won't be the only color in the city's St. Patrick's Day parade March 8.
Red, white and blue also will play a prominent role, said parade organizer Marie Gosselin, who has invited veterans from around the region to serve as grand marshals this year.
Clan McPherson, a North Andover-based pipe band, will perform in the parade, which is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
To ensure the show will go on, organizers have begun to solicit donations.
"Even $5 or $10 helps," said Gosselin.
Anyone interested in contributing may send a check, payable to the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, to Marie Gosselin, 4 E. Gilbert St., Lawrence, MA 01843.
No Solomon hearings this week
Former Methuen police Chief Joseph Solomon's civil service hearing was postponed yesterday because one of Methuen's lawyers is dealing with a medical problem.
Attorney David Grunebaum encountered an unforeseen "medical issue that would require his absence" from yesterday's hearing, said Mayor William Manzi.
Manzi said Grunebaum should be ready to attend the next portion of the hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 9:30 a.m., in 1 Ashburton Place, Boston.
