ANDOVER — Police are investigating the death of an elderly woman who left her Brookside Drive apartment and was found laying in the parking lot near some cars Tuesday morning.

Andover police Lt. James Hashem would not identify the woman, but said her death did not appear to be the result of foul play.

Hashem said police and firefighters were called to the scene at 400 Brookside Drive about 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, after a man leaving his apartment saw the 75-year-old woman laying in the parking lot dressed in a nightgown and not wearing shoes.

She was treated at the scene by Andover Fire Department emergency medical technicians and taken to Lawrence General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Hashem said the woman appears to have left her apartment sometime during the night before she was found.

He declined further comment on the case, saying only that the investigation continues.
