LAWRENCE — Thieves stole three minibikes from the back of a pickup truck parked in a tow lot on Carver Street, police said.
A worker for Sheehan's Towing, owners of the lot, called police to report the theft, police said. The worker told police he noticed the minibikes were missing when he reported to work about 8 a.m.
The lot is completely fenced in and portions of the fence are topped with razor wire, police said.
The worker showed police a Dodge Stratus parked next to the fence at the back of the lot.
The car had mud smeared all over the hood and roof and scratches on the hood and roof, leading police to believe the minibikes were pushed to the car, rolled up onto the hood and roof then hoisted or thrown over the fence.
The worker told police he found three bicycles outside the fence a short distance away.
The case was forwarded to the detective division for further investigation.
