Police are hunting for thieves who broke into homes in Groveland, Boxford, Georgetown and Rowley and took more than $60,000 in cash, jewelry and other items.

Investigators said it appears the same duo of thieves broke into all the homes.

They took more than $20,000 in cash and jewelry from two Groveland homes over the weekend and also took items worth $40,000 during an earlier break into a Boxford home, police said. They also broke into homes in Georgetown and Rowley, police said.

Police from various departments are meeting today to compare information because they think the cases are related, said Groveland Sgt. Jeffrey Gillen. No one was home during the breaks. The thieves entered as many as 10 homes, police said.

Police said the Groveland breaks in the Center and Salem streets neighborhood are the most recent and happened early Friday night, possibly around 6 p.m. At one of the homes, the thieves forced open the deadbolt of a door.

The early evening time frame for a house break is unusual, Gillen said, adding that typically homes are broken into during the daytime.

Police said information gathered through witness accounts and other methods indicates the duo works in this way: One enters the home and takes items while the other stays in the car ready to drive off.

Police refused to give information about the car, such as its make and model. They also would not give the addresses of the breaks.

Residents are asked to contact police if they see any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. Police also remind residents to keep their doors secured.
