ANDOVER — Danny Ainge was at Massachusetts School of Law last week, laying down the law on basketball.

About 100 students packed the old courtroom at the school to hear the former Celtics player and current director of basketball operations talk about the legalities involved in being both a player and a manager in the NBA. He spoke to professor Holly Vietzke's sports law class on Tuesday afternoon.

He faced difficult questions on how they deal with players' contracts and agents, how to become a lawyer for a sports team and whether he and his lawyer specifically draft ethics clauses for certain contracts — they do, he said.

He was also pressed on more important matters, such as whether this year's Celtics team was better than the legendary Celtics team of the mid-1980's.

"I think the 1986 team was the best team ever," Ainge said. "But I would be more proud of this team. I don't think this team has the same talent they had in '86."
