LAWRENCE — Officer Charles Saindon was patrolling on Lowell Street yesterday morning when he saw two men getting out of a parked Acura and holding property taken from the car.
Saindon recognized one of the men as Angel Rivera, 27, 15 Rollins St., because he has arrested him several times in the past.
The second man was later identified as Joel Roszak, 36, who is homeless, police said.
Saindon said Rivera got out of the front seat of the car holding an electronic component with a long wire hanging from it, and Roszak was closing the rear passenger door as he held a battery charger and a New York Yankees jacket.
Saindon circled the block and saw the two men start walking west on Lowell Street.
The officer then turned into the parking lot of a Broadway social club to cut back to Lowell Street, and as he approached Lowell Street he saw the two men walking toward him.
Saindon ordered the two men to his cruiser and told them to place the electronics on the hood of the cruiser as Officer Adam Goujon arrived to back him up.
Rivera told him he was coming from his girlfriend's car, which had broken down, and he and Roszak were retrieving some items from it, police said.
Saindon then walked to the Acura, where he was flagged down by a 23-year-old resident of 255 Lowell St., where the car had been parked.
The man told Saindon the car was his but registered in his girlfriend's name.
Saindon and Goujon showed the man the property Rivera and Roszak had in their possession and he identified it as his.
He told police he did not know either of the two men.
Rivera and Roszak were arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, and larceny over $250.
Roszak also was charged with possession of burglary tools.
During booking, Saindon searched Roszak and found a small piece of porcelain from a spark plug in his front pocket, police said.
The porcelain piece, called a "blitz," is used to shatter car windows without making any noise, police said.
The incident occurred at 11 a.m. Thursday, police said.
