Comcast to show it cares

METHUEN — On Saturday, 130 Comcast employees will clean and paint at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm as part of the company's seventh annual Comcast Cares Day.

Nationwide, approximately 50,000 Comcast employees will participate in this year's day of community service, said Marc Goodman, a Comcast spokesman.

All those helping out at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals live and work in the Merrimack Valley. They join the more than 4,700 Comcast workers and their families who will volunteer at 50 sites in New England, said Goodman.

Locally, work at the animal shelter begins at 8 a.m.

"It's become a tradition," Goodman said. "Employees look forward to this time of year."

More than 120,000 volunteers from Comcast have logged about 714,000 hours of free service to almost 1,300 sites across the country. Each employee is given a paid day off to do community service, Goodman said.
