Couple hurt in Route 114 crash

By Margo Sullivan
Staff Writer

MIDDLETON — A 76-year-old woman was trapped in her car yesterday after the Mercedes her husband was driving was broadsided by another vehicle, injuring the couple.

Rescue workers extricated Geraldine Jenkins of Peabody using hydraulic equipment. She and her husband, William Jenkins, 81, were taken to North Shore Medical Center, according to Detective Sgt. Gayle Haley.

The couple were in stable condition last night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. near the driveway of Angelica's Restaurant on Route 114. The couple were in a 1987 Mercedes 190 driven by William Jenkins, 81, when their car was struck by a 1998 Oldsmobile driven by Samuel Zenon, 33, of Lynn.

Zenon was cited for speeding and for failing to yield (to a turning hazard), Haley said.
