For Alex and his family: Share your well-wishes

May 12, 2008 10:18 am

Lawrence Army Spc. Alex Jimenez is one of four soldiers feared captured | or killed | by terrorists during an ambush in Iraq in May 2007. Some 4,000 U.S. troops conducted a massive search of the war-ravaged area known as the "triangle of death." As the Merrimack Valley prays for Jimenez' safe return, The Eagle-Tribune is compiling well-wishes for his family. To submit your sentiments, e-mail foralex@eagletribune.com.

We are wishing your safe return. Keep the faith, the lord is watching over all of you no matter the outcome. Alex is a hero and is fighting for all of us in this world to make it a better place, for that we are all truely blessed to have gotten to know him even if just from the media. We all have him in our hearts for now and forever. Alex will be found and home one day and we will all say a prayer for this to happen soon. God Bless. Suzanne and Family

We are a retired 20-year career Navy family living in Florida. I was born in Lawrence, MA on Arlington Street over 70 years ago in the shade of the old Arlington Mill on Broadway. We are well familiar with the sacrifices required of the military family, and our thoughts and prayers are for your family and with Alex for his safety until he is found. Our vote is that his beloved wife will be given the refuge in this country for which he fights and which she deserves as the wife of a U.S. military member NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Immigration, or Justice, or whichever department out there is stalling on the "right thing to do", needs to get busy and just do what is the only thing to do in this instance. The deporting of Mrs. Jiminez would be a disgrace of major proporation. We'll be watching how things unfold. Anonymous

Am a WW2 vet---My thoughts and prayers for the safe return of Alex and God bless Alex and his very loving family. A Veteran who Cares

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. IN 1967, I WAS 17 WHEN MY BROTHER WAS KILLED IN VIET NAM. THE FOLLOWING YEAR I JOINED THE ARMY AND SPENT THREE YEARS. I PRAY THAT ALEX RETURNS TO YOU. NOT A DAY GOES BY THAT I DO NOT THINK OF FEB 2OTH 1967. I PRAY THAT YOU. ARE ALL SPARED FROM THIS. WAR IS A TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE WASTE. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. WALK WITH YOU. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. PEACE TO YOU; BOB McCARTHY

I have lit a candle for you. A candle is a protest at midnight; It is a non-conformist; It says to the darkness, 'I beg to differ'. Julie

Alex you are obviously well respected and loved by many. I wish you a safe return and admire the strength of you and your family. I will continue to keep positive energy streaming your way each day. L. Lemstrom

I read every day and wish your family will receive good news. I pray he Returns safely home. He seems like a very brave young man and god will send him Home to all of you. Always in my prayers. Bless you all. A caring family from Methuen, mass.

My thoughts and prayers are with you daily. May God give you the strength and hope you need to sustain you. I am so grateful to all the brave men and women who defend our country. I can't imagine all they must go through in war. I feel so selfish that I never wanted a son to have to send to war. I had 3 daughters, but I suppose they could have wanted to enlist in a branch of service. You have made a great sacrfice giving your son to defend our country to make it a safer place for me, my children and grandchildren. I will be forever grateful for that and these soldiers will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that Alex is safe and in no harms way and that you can find closure with word on Alex. Donna Gaznick-Hopler

Alex, you are very special in all our hearts. I saw Alex grow up. He was always an active kid. He loved to be running around like every normal child. He respected his parents above all.Since the first day that i heard of what happen,my life has not been the same,I can't sleep because i think i will get a phone call at any time. When i go to work I'm always calling to see if they got any news. I feel bad for my children because i don't go no where with them anymore.I feel that if i'm gone from home i will not be there if they get news.If there is 24 hours in a day i say i pray for him a least 18 of them. All those videos and pictures that came out, never did anything for me.I have faith in God that he is coming back. The last thing you lose is your faith.Alex everyone is praying for you.Keep strong and God will release you himself.I admire his mother and father for there strentgh in this situtation.Once again Alex we love and miss you very much........Ana liriano and Family

I am feeling like the most selfish person in the world right now. I'm awaiting surgery for lump that the doctors found in my neck. They don't know what it is yet and I just found 3 smaller ones last night. When I was laying in bed last night, I was thinking about how serious it could actually be. I am 23 years old and a mother of a 20 month old little girl. All I kept thinking about was what she would do without me. I kept thinking negative thoughts, not thinking about what bigger problems there are out there right now. Whatever is wrong with me doesn't compare to the feeling of not knowing where your child is, if he or she is hungry or hurt. It doesn't compare to the empty feeling that you have when you go to sleep and when you awake. It doesn't compare to an unknown diagnosis of an unknown presumable illness. It just doesn't compare and for that, I'm sorry. I'm at work sitting at my desk. I read the paper on-line like I always do, and today I read the article about how Alex Jimenez's family is feeling through this distraught moment. I cried and cried. It's too hard. Maria del Rosario Duran is a very strong woman and I get strength from her. I will be strong when I go into surgery because I know that there are bigger problems out there and I can't even imagine not knowing where my daughter is at all times. Thank you Maria for giving me strength. Stay strong and God bless you and your family. Kaprisky Santiago

We pray for the safe return of your beloved son. The DiBitetto Family

Words cannot express how much we love and miss you Alex. You are so determined and you are a fighter. I know you are fighting for us here in the states and on behalf of "making this world a better place". It was awkward yesterday to have a conversation with one of my best friends. She said she would never let her children go to the army. She like many of us, do not want to allow our kids to go into the war not knowing if they'll come out. I responded by saying, yes we are from Dominican descent, but we were born Americans. He like everyone before us and after us is fighting for a better future. where our children and grandchildren will have a safer world. We're defending America. The land of the brave. I would be a coward to hear my child say I want to defend our country and me stop him. We want to enjoy the American lifestyle, money and great opportunities, but defend it..is our duty. I love you Alex and know that you're going to come home to us and give us that warm smile that we so much feen for these days. We love you Alex. Kelsy Jimenez

Being a Lawrence native and hearing about your son in Holiday, FL breaks my heart. He is in our prayers for a safe return. A yellow ribbon is tied on our porch for your son. He is a hero to all Americans. We will keep your family and Alex in our prayers. Lonny & Krista DiMauro-Dollar

I just wanted to let you know that I'm praying for Alex's safe return home. I'm praying EVERY DAY since I heard of what happened to the 3 soldiers captured by the insurgents. My heart goes out to you and to the family of the other captured soldiers as well. My wish is for all American soldiers to return home SAFE AND SOUND. God be with us all. And bring back home all the troops in Iraq. Agueda Cardoso

Hello, my name is Cynthia DesLauriers. I live on Cape Cod and am the proud mother of a fallen soldier, SGT. Mark Vecchione. My son was KIA last July 18, 2006 in AR Ramadi, Iraq. He was the first Cape soldier to have been killed in Iraq. This letter is not to tell you about me or my sorrows, but to let you know that you are in my heart and prayers. You can only have Faith that your son is fine. I had total Faith in my son and what he believed. Our sons are doing what they believe for their families and their country. Please, please accept this letter as a "hug", as sometimes this is the only thing that may help when words are at a loss. Cynthia DesLauriers

We are continuing to pray for you and your family Rose

First, I want to share my thoughts and prayers surrounding Alex's service to his country. Thank god for the men and women of our armed forces who have that special calling "protect America" and service to our great country. Many people take our way of life for granted, our opportunity to be anything we set our minds to and the freedom to speak no matter how unpopular the words. After 911, most of America no longer took things for granted, we learned that America and the free world has enemies that think it's perfectly fine to raise their children to be suicide bombers to kill the innocent men, women and children. We cannot comprehend this concept. How do you fight this enemy? There is a price for freedom and the American way of life and that price is to defend it. Alex's service to our country is more than just joining the army, it's a symbol of great Americans picking up arms to defend the homeland. During World War II, America sat on the side lines for most of the early part of the war, Americans thought it was a European problem, the Atlantic Ocean would keep us safe. The next thing you know, we were attacked at Pearl Harbor. Over one million men and women went off to war, to protect America. We lost 3000 people at the world trade center, people just like you and I, living the dream, providing for our families and on one sunny day, things changed. America was under attack. Men, like Alex did something, others pointed fingers, and many, after time, forgot. Not Alex, he knows that his service to his country is his way of protecting his family, friends and neighbors and yes, the rest of us he has never met. They leave home and follow the enemies of our great nation taking the fight to them. There is a reason that America has not been attacked in the last 6 years, men like Alex will not allow it to happen. Well, the rest of us will never forget Alex, pray for his safe return, and I offer our support, thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this most trying of times. God Bless America, God Bless Alex, Bob & Kathy Connors

We are praying for Alex, his fellow soldiers, and the families of all. Trudy

A Soldier's Prayer God our Father, Help me to remain true to my ideals during my service to my country. Help me be what is in America, the land of the free. May I realize that I represent what our country stands for. My uniform is a symbol of duty and valor both in peace and in war. I take up arms to defend what all Americans hold dear: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Grant me the strength to live according to these ideals, the courage of my convictions, and the resolve to endure whatever dangers threaten. With you at our side I fear no evil and resist every enemy, secure in the knowledge that you hold me in the palm of your hand. Amen. Hilda Colon

Alex everyday that goes by we pray for your safe return, and we have hope that you will come back soon to your family. Que Dios te bendiga siempre por tu labor. Esperamos por tu regreso, todos en Lawrence estamos muy orgullosos de ti. Maria Peguero and family

To God I pray for your safe return dear cousin, since I learn you where one of the soldiers taken hostages there isn't a moment that I could rest, the needs to help you and not been able to do it, even thought we have not seen each other in along time but the blood call and it hurt us too. My prayers are with you for your safe come back so you can heal and praise our God, together as family and never go back. Thanks to the armed forces that are looking for you right now, if I could I would be there too. God Bless. Guillermo Bisono

I pray for you as you await news of your beloved son Alex and his return home. I pray that, whatever Alex's circumstances, that those who have power over him may be merciful to him. In the sight of God, your son Alex is of infinite value to Heaven as he is to this nation, which he is faithfully and courageously serving in its hour of need. I pray for his strength to bear what he must currently endure. I hold you, his family, in my prayers, imagining the fear and anguish you must endure in these hours and days. Every family with someone in the armed services (my brother is an Army nurse, retired) extends their love and compassion to yours. We pray for your son as if he were our own because he is our own. Patricia Ktistes

Besides being very brave, your son is quite the handsome young man. You are, I'm sure, very proud parents. I have a son a little older than Alex and I love him very much. I can't imagine being in your position. I will pray for him every night until they find him - my heart aches for you. God Bless your family Betty

We cannot imagine what you must be going through right now. as difficult as it is you must stay strong, and rely on God, He can work miracles. We pray for all our men and women who have taken on the cause of protecting our country. We have added Alex to our prayer line. God willing he will soon be back in Lawrence with all of his loved ones. May God bless you all, and send a special Angel to protect our Alex. Frank and Dotti Incropera

The Families of: Boshar, Reynolds, Ivers, Lawlor, Garafalo, Augusta, Karcz, Schroeder and Channen. Kathy Boshar Reynolds

Alex Jimenez' capture has affected not only his lovely family but all Americans. We are all brothers and sisters. Although our young men are in peril and in a seemingly impossible situation, we are NOT by all means helpless, the just and good have God and powerful angels on our side. Let us all agree in prayer with-our-tongues( vital) with everyone praying ( with their-tongues) for Alex's and his fighting brothers' blanket of security and safety, comfort, and safe return home to his family, that his adversaries' weapons be ineffective against them and all Americans, that our enemies hearts be changed and emptied of all evil. PLEASE include this phrase verbatim in all prayers; "forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors", we pray in the name of God's son Jesus Christ, AMEN." thank you for caring, when we pray this not doubting with faith/confidence the Holy Spirit acts and gives us his grace. If God is with us who can be against us? P.R. Durruthy, D.D.

My thoughts and prayers are with Alex and all of our military men and woman. I am grateful for their courage and determination. They truly love their families and country . We also pray for you that you will have strength, courage, and faith. Our daughter is in the Army and served three tours in Iraq as a psychiatric counselor. I am very pleased that I can send the family of Alex this message. I want them to know that for days now, my family have been praying and begging God for him and his comrades to be found safe. I do not know these boys, but I feel as though they are family. I cannot stand the thought of them being held by the enemy, who have been so barbaric, and do not know how to fight fair. I am getting so frustrated by the way it is happening there in Iraq. We have to change our military tactics and strategies, something right has to be done! The American people should devote a day of prayer for our troops in Iraq, and Afghanistan. As a nation, we have to be united in prayer, because God alone can stop these madness in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have to pray not only for our boys now being held by the enemy, but we have to pray also for these terrorists who have them that they might be enlightened by the grace of God to release them unharmed, or that they maybe found by our military looking for them. I will not stop praying for them until they are found! Cora Lirag

To the family and friends of Alex Jimenez (especially his mom) i don't know your family but i am also a mother and my heart goes out to you.. i pray for your family and each time i see your son on the front page smiling . i pray to god that the article is going to say he's been found . and he's healthy and you will be able to at least hear his voice so you can tell him once again how much you love him. so i just want to say that i am praying for his safe return. Denise Murray

We are praying for Alex and your family. Jill & Chris McConnell

I thought you would be interested to know that this morning during our worship at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence (on East Haverhill Street), we included Alex in our prayers for his safe return, as well as all those serving in the military. I'm sure there are many other churches and individuals who are keeping him in thought and prayer during this difficult time, and hope that thought will bring you comfort. We believe that God is watching over him and hope to hear that he will be home safe and sound very soon. We are grateful that there are strong soldiers like Alex who are committed to our country's mission. May God graciously bless you and give you strength during this trying time. Pfc. Evan O'Neill was like a brother to me. The day we found out that he was taken from us was one of the hardest days of my life. But one thing has remained true through the whole ordeal.. I have never been so proud of anyone in my entire life. Be proud of Alex. Seek comfort in the hope that he will return to you safe and sound. Seek comfort in the knowledge that you have raised a hero. Everyday that you spent with him has molded him into a man that we are lucky to have standing on that line, defending the things that we take for granted. I pray for you all and I pray for Alex. I thank you for raising a great hero, a great role model. Jennifer Valentine

My grandson was just deployed to Iraq and we are worried sick about him so we have added you to our prayers for your son's safe return too. At least there was good news that he wasn't the unidentified soldier killed last week that we all worried about. Anonymous

My thoughts and prayers have been with the father of Alex, who i met on sunday on my way to NYC in a bus, when he was telling me how some soldiers earlier that morning knocked the door, to tell him his son was missing, tears and more tears, came out of his eyes telling how this was the second time his son went to Iraq, after the first time he came injured....I had been praying ever since, and today i heard the news and i remembered the first name and last name, of his son and his age, thats when i realized that was his son, it broke my heart seeing this man devastated, it breaks it even more that they still have not found his son, but with everyones prayers and with God, this guy will be found alive.
