LAWRENCE — A 15-year-old boy was charged with breaking into a Bernard Avenue home after admitting to the crime to a Guilmette School safety officer, police said.
Officer Ariel Montas was sent to the scene at 56 Bernard Ave., where the victims told him an Xbox 360 video game console, 32-inch LCD flat-screen television, a Cartier watch, a Movado watch, and 15 pairs of shoes had been taken.
As Montas checked the area to see if he could find anyone carrying those items, he received a call on his cell phone from the school safety officer, who told him he had a teenager who admitted taking part in the break, police said.
Montas drove to the school and found the boy there.
The boy told him he had been at home when three of his friends approached and asked him to help them break into the Bernard Avenue home, police said.
He told Montas he had entered the apartment but had only gone as far as the stairs, and had not taken anything, police said.
He told Montas he did not know the names of his friends except for one named Michael, who lives on Howard Street.
The boy was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, police said.
Car burns at parking deck
HAVERHILL — A 2001 Volkswagen Passat was destroyed by fire while it was parked in front of the parking deck at 20 Main St., police said.
Officers were sent to the scene about 6 p.m. Thursday and found firefighters putting out the fire.
The owner of the car told police he had parked the car there 20 minutes earlier after driving it for about 10 minutes, and that he had only had the car for three weeks and had not had any problems with the car.
Police said fire officials told them the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature, but could not pinpoint the exact location where the fire started.
