Man shot in the head during home invasion on Weare Street, Lawrence
LAWRENCE — A violent home invasion has left one man clinging to life with a gunshot wound to the head, and his girlfriend also injured.
Juan Caba, 23, was shot in the head by one of two men who broke into the apartment at 147 Weare St. about 4:45 a.m. His girlfriend, Amanda Foxworth, 21, also received minor injuries.
Both victims were flown to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to Lawrence Police Chief John Romero. While the hospital was unable to release their condition, Romero said Caba was in "rough shape."
"We are not ruling out this is gang-related," Romero said.
"The boyfriend grabbed for the gun, the gun was fired, and the bullet struck him in the head and injured her as well," he said.
One neighbor said the victim had just moved in to 147 Weare St., a multi-family house with several apartments, about four months ago, and could occasionally be seen sitting on the porch.
Romero said Caba is known to police and that the shooting was not random.
According to past stories in The Eagle-Tribune, Caba was arrested in August 2007 on Prospect Court and charged with possession of a loaded firearm without a firearms identification card, as well as possession of marijuana.
