Here's a list of Memorial Day observances in the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire on Monday:
MASSACHUSETTS
AMESBURY — Parade at 10 a.m. (forms at 9:30 a.m.) from Friend Street to Main Street to William B. Justin Park for services.
ANDOVER — Services at 7 a.m. in West Parish Cemetery, followed by a service at 7:30 a.m. in St. Augustine Cemetery. At 8 a.m., a cannon salute will start the ceremony at the American Legion lot in Spring Grove Cemetery. Thomas Collins of the American Legion will speak and Robert Johnson of Clan McPherson will perform a Scottish hymn.
Parade at 10 a.m. from Florence and Elm streets to Main Street and Punchard Avenue, ending at The Park for services to be marked by a military flyover and patriotic readings by students.
At 10:45 a.m., the new Korean War Memorial will be dedicated in The Park. A lunch for parade participants at Doherty Middle School from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
BOXFORD — Parade at 9:30 a.m. (forms at 9 a.m.) from West Boxford Library to Brookside Cemetery for services, then continues to the Village Green for services.
GEORGETOWN — Parade at 2 p.m. (forms at 1:30 p.m.) from the high school to the Civil War Memorial, Firemen's Memorial and Harry Murch Park, with a ceremony at each site.
HAVERHILL — Parade at 10:30 a.m. from VFW Lorraine Post 29 at 64 Kenoza Ave. to Monument Square, following Main Street to City Hall to Summer Street, ending at Linwood Cemetery for services. Marching will be veterans, veterans organizations, auxiliaries, politicians, Boy Scouts and the Haverhill High JROTC, as well as the Sons of Italy Drum and Bugle Corps and members of the Haverhill High band. Later, the VFW has lunch for parade participants.
LAWRENCE — Ceremony at 9 a.m. at the red brick barn at Bellevue Cemetery, 100 Reservoir St. James Ross is master of ceremonies and Brother Rene Roy, president of Central Catholic High, will lead the prayers. Guest speaker will be James Gerby, a first lieutenant in the Army Corps in World War II and the Lawrence High School Girls Ensemble performs. A cemetery tour and reception follows.
METHUEN — Parade at 10 a.m., from American Legion, 190 Broadway to Hampshire, Lowell and Grove streets, ending at Walnut Grove Cemetery for services. At noon, the VFW holds services at the veterans lot at Elmwood Cemetery, North Lowell Street.
NORTH ANDOVER — Parade at 10 a.m. from Franklin School to Hewitt, Chestnut, Andover, Mass and Salem streets, ending at Ridgewood Cemetery for a service. A flag-raising and gun salute follows at VFW Post 2104 on Park Street. In event of rain, services will be in the Middle School auditorium.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
ATKINSON — At 9:30 a.m., Atkinson Women's Club holds contest for patriotic-themed bikes and carriages on the lawn at Town Hall. Parade at 10:30 a.m. (forms at 10 a.m.) from Town Hall to Dow Common for a ceremony at the soldiers' monument. Fire Department's annual cookout follows.
DANVILLE — Parade at 10 a.m. (forms between 9 and 9:45 a.m.) from Danville Elementary School off Route 111A, to the Veterans Memorial at Kingston Road and Route 111A. Rockingham County Sheriff's Department color guard will lead marchers. State National Guard Adjutant Gen. Kenneth Clark will be grand marshal and keynote speaker.
DERRY — Service at 11:30 a.m. in MacGregor Park. At 3 p.m., ticker tape parade on Broadway to MacGregor Park arriving at 4 p.m. for unveiling of the first monument in the United States to honor the veterans of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Gov. John Lynch will be keynote speaker. Followed by an All-American Cookout with a band.
HAMPSTEAD — Observances from 11 a.m. to noon at the bandstand behind Town Hall, and bring a lawn chair or blanket. Free miniature flags will be distributed. The Pinkerton Academy JROTC will present the colors and Central School children, directed by Cindi Verrill and Natalie Gallo, sing patriotic songs.
KINGSTON — Ceremony at noon by memorials at Town Hall, followed by parade on Church Street to North Road, ending in Greenwood Cemetery at the Veterans Memorial for services.
LONDONDERRY — Parade at 10 a.m. from Londonderry High School to Mammoth Road, ending at Town Commons for a ceremony, then Londonderry cemetery for services.
NEWTON — Parade at 2 p.m. from Horace Williams Community Hall.
PELHAM — VFW conducts a brief service at 9 a.m. in Veterans Memorial Park. Parade at 10 a.m. from the American Legion Post 100 on Windham Road, stopping in town center for a wreath-laying and marching on to Gibson Cemetery for a reading of the names of deceased veterans. Hot dogs and soda for children at the post home follows.
PLAISTOW — Parade at 2 p.m. from Pollard School to the cemetery on Elm Street for a brief ceremony, then to Pollard Park for another ceremony.
SALEM — Parade at 2 p.m. from Salem High School on Geremonty Drive to Route 97, ending at the town common and cemetery for services.
SANDOWN — Parade at noon (forms at 11:30 a.m.) in the Depot, ending at Town Hall for a wreath-laying, then to the cemetery, where Col. Kevin Major will memorialize one of New Hampshire's fallen heroes.
WINDHAM — Parade at 9:30 a.m. (forms at 8:30 a.m.) at Center School, and will include the Salem High School Marching Band and the Windham Center School and Middle School bands, along with Boy and Girl Scouts. Route follows South Lowell Road to Cobbetts Pond Road to Ministerial Road to the veterans lot in the cemetery for services. Ice cream follows at the Wilbur Tarbell American Legion Post 109 on Ministerial Road for everyone.
