Region is honoring its wartime dead on Memorial Day

Parades, wreath-layings and salutes mark Memorial Day events in the Merrimack Valley and South New Hampshire today. Here's the list:

MASSACHUSETTS

Amesbury: Parade at 10 a.m. on Main Street to Justin Memorial for a ceremony. In case of rain, ceremony in Amesbury High.

Andover: Ceremonies at 7 a.m. in West Parish Cemetery; 7:30 a.m. in St. Augustine Cemetery; and 8 a.m., Spring Grove Cemetery. Parade at 10 a.m. from Florence and Elm streets to The Park for unveiling of newly restored World War I cannon at 10:45 a.m.

Boxford: Ceremonies at 7:30 a.m. in Harmony Cemetery; 8 a.m. at Roundtop Historic Site; and 8:30 a.m. in Ancient Cemetery. Parade at 9:30 a.m. from Community Center to Village Cemetery and Melvin Green for placing of wreaths and a ceremony.

Georgetown: Ceremonies at the Harmony, Union and South Byfield cemeteries, starting at 9 a.m. Parade at 2 p.m. from high school to Central Fire Station, Civil War Monument and Harry Murch Park for ceremonies.

Haverhill: Parade at 10:30 a.m. from VFW on Kenoza Avenue to Linwood Cemetery for a ceremony.

Lawrence: Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. in Bellevue Cemetery, 100 Reservoir St. with retired Army Maj. Robert Kelley, who served in Vietnam War, followed by a tour of Civil War graves. Service at 10:30 a.m., in St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, 29 Barker St. In case of rain, service in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 300 Haverhill St.

Merrimac: Wreath ceremony on Rocks Village Bridge at 8 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. service in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Methuen: Parade at 9:30 a.m. from American Legion, 200 Broadway, to Charles Street Monuments for 10 a.m. service, followed by service in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Grove Street. At noon, VFW holds service in Elmwood Cemetery, North Lowell Street.

Middleton: Parade at 9 a.m. from Memorial Hall to the library for flag raising, placing of wreaths and more, followed by service in Oakdale Cemetery.

North Andover: Parade at 10 a.m. from Center Common to Ridgewood Cemetery for a ceremony, dedicated to Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Caitlyn Trask, who died in Virginia this year.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Atkinson: Parade at 10:30 a.m. from Town Hall.

Derry: Observances at 7:30 a.m. at VFW and American Legion post homes, followed by cermonies in Holy Cross, and Forest Hills cemeteries and GAR monument, and each post home between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Parade at 11 a.m. from Hood Commons on Crystal Avenue to MacGregor Park for noontime service.

Hampstead: Ceremony at 11 a.m. at bandstand behind town offices, includes dedication new monument honoring residents who have joined the armed forces since the Vietnam War. In case of rain, ceremony in Veterans Memorial Gymnasium.

Kingston: Parade at noon from Town Hall.

Londonderry: Parade at 10 a.m. from Londonderry High to Town Common to the cemetery.

Newton: Parade at 2:30 p.m. from Memorial School to Willow Grove Cemetery for a ceremony. Refreshments follow.

Pelham: Wreath ceremony at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Mammoth Road and at 10 a.m. on Center Common. A muster, from 10:20 to 10:30 a.m., on the Village Green. At 11 a.m., gun salute, wreath-laying and speakers in Gibson Cemetery. At noon, American Legion has a cookout.

Plaistow: Mass at 9 a.m. in Holy Angels Cemetery on East Road. In case of rain, service will be at Mary Mother of the Church in Newton. Parade at 12:30 p.m. from American Legion, 176 Main St., to Westville Cemetery, East Road, for a 1 p.m. ceremony. At 1:45 p.m. parade from Pollard School to Elm Street Cemetery, for 2 p.m. ceremony, followed by a ceremony at 2:15 p.m., at Town Hall, 145 Main St.

Sandown: Parade at noon from the Depot on Main Street to war monument at Town Hall. Children are encouraged to place tokens of appreciation (flowers, flags or pictures) to war veterans. Parade continues on to

Center Cemetery: Timberlane Middle School marching band will play.

Salem: Parade at 1 p.m. from Salem High School to town common and cemetery on Route 97 for a ceremony.

Windham: Parade at 9:30 a.m. from Center School to Cemetery on the Plains off Cobbetts Pond Road for a 10 a.m. ceremony, followd by ice cream.
