"The canoe race is a blast and a great way to support Special Olympics athletes in our north section," said Sean Canty, north section director. This year's theme is pirates, and participants are encouraged to dress the role. The race starts at the Essex County Correctional Alternative Center, 165 Marston St., and winds seven miles downriver to the Crescent Yacht Club in Bradford. Registration is at 8 a.m.; opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. A celebration, featuring food, raffles and live entertainment by the Prospect Hill and The Groove bands follows at the yacht club.
