Nurse's aide arrested in theft of credit card

By Jim Patten
Staff Writer

NORTH ANDOVER — A nursing assistant has been accused of stealing a credit card from an elderly person and running up over $900 in charges on it, police said.

Inspector Daniel Cronin said the victim lives at Ashland Farms, an assisted living facility on Chickering Road, and the nursing assistant was caring for him at the time of the theft.

Nadege Mardigras, 32, 44 Thorndike St., Lawrence, was arrested at the police station Thursday morning and charged with larceny from a person over 65, larceny over $250, larceny of a credit card, and improper use of a credit card over $250.

Cronin said family members of the victim were reviewing his monthly credit card statements, noticed the charges on it, and contacted police.

Officer Patrick Beirne conducted an investigation and was able to identify Mardigras through the use of surveillance video from one of the stores where she used the stolen credit card.

Cronin said Mardigras is employed by an outside agency and not Ashland Farms.

He said the agency had been made aware of the theft allegations.
