Cab ride ends abruptly for 3 Lawrence men arrested in Haverhill on drug, gun charges
HAVERHILL — A cab ride for three Lawrence men ended abruptly on Summer Street yesterday evening as they were surrounded by police and arrested on a variety of drug and gun charges.
Alvin Rivera, 26, of 150 Willow St., was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of herion with intent to distribute, and eight outstanding warrants.
Manuel Colon, 21, of 52 Newbury St., Apt. 4, Lawrence, faces the same firearm and heroin possession/distribution charges, but was also hit with a charge of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and one arrest warrant.
The third man, Daniel Torres, 23, of 141 May St., Lawrence, faces all the same charges as Colon, but has an additional 10 arrest warrants.
The arrests were part of a joint operation with Haverhill police, the federal department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the North Shore Gang Task Force and Essex County Drug Task Force, run by the State Police.
Essex County District Attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan said the three men arrived in a cab outside of 51 Summer St. about 5:30 p.m.
The cab drove away, and a short while later returned.
As the three men were getting back into the cab, police made the arrests, she said.
The cab driver does not appear to be involved, she said.
The guns seized were a 22-cal. pistol, .380 ammunition, a .40-caliber handgun, two bags of cocaine totalling 8.4 grams, and one bag containing 2 grams of heroin.
