Knife, cell phone taken from cars in Haverhill

HAVERHILL — Police are investigating two thefts from unlocked cars that occurred during the weekend, netting thieves a knife and a cell phone.

A man told police his girlfriend's unlocked 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee was entered on Saturday while it was parked at his Jackson Street home. The only thing taken from the Jeep was a cell phone valued at $135, the man told police.

The theft was reported Monday at 12:05 p.m.

A Winchester special edition knife valued at $100 was taken from a 2003 Honda Civic parked in front of 351 Washington St., police said. The owner of the car reported the theft at 4:56 p.m. Monday and told police he believed the car was entered sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning.

The knife was described as having a 3-inch blade with a black, wooden handle bearing the inscription "Special Edition 2006."

The man told police the front passenger door lock is broken and he is unable to lock the car.
